On this Mother's Day, we honor the Marching Mothers and all that they did for not only their children, but for all of the children of Highland County. An integrated school made it better for all students.
The exhibit opens June 3! The Highland House Museum will be open from 1-4. Come join us, see this inspirational exhibit, and meet the Lincoln School committee! We are so excited to share this story! We are also proud to be hosting the Brown v Board of Education exhibit during the month of June! Thank you to the Highland County Bar Assn. for their sponsorship and to Cheryl Brown Henderson of the Brown Foundation!
Also watch for some of our programs during the month of June! June 17 we host the Chillicothe Men's Choir gospel group. Watch them on YouTube! June 24 we have Hillsboro's New Hope Baptist Church choir. June 29 we have Professor Ric Sheffield of Kenyon College speaking about "In the Wake of Brown: The Color of Classrooms in Rural Ohio" at 7 pm, sponsored by the Ohio Humanities. Lots going on!
We are pleased to announce that the Lincoln Project has received funding from the Ohio Arts Council for our project! This project shows how important the funding to the humanities is and we all need to let our legislators know to keep funding places like Ohio Humanities, Ohio Arts Council, and PBS!
Members of the Lincoln School Committee were invited to a luncheon hosted by the Ohio Humanities. The Ohio Humanities have funded two grants supporting this project. We had a wonderful afternoon and got to see a performance of Thurgood Marshall by Alan Bomar Jones.
This weekend, Torrice Media was at the Highland House Museum to complete filming for the Lincoln School exhibit. The exhibit is scheduled to open to the public on June 3, 2017 and will also feature the Brown vs. Board of Education Traveling Exhibit. Seen here is Teresa Williams who attended Lincoln School and participated in the daily "marches" to Webster School.
Welcome to the Lincoln School Project site! The committee is busy working on the project that has a tentative opening of June 1, 2017 at the Highland House Museum in Hillsboro. We will also be hosting the travelling national Brown vs. Board of Education exhibit for the month of June. This project would not be possible without the efforts of many!
